In Italy, there are some homes that do not have running water from the water supply. In this case, the water supply takes place from the underlying aquifer through the excavation of artesian wells. The quality of the water, from a chemical point of view, can be affected by any infiltrations of industrial, agricultural and human origin. Such infiltrations do not depend on the depth of the water well: as the water can travel great distances both vertically and horizontally before reaching the water table from which it is collected.

For those who use water through i wells careful analysis is required from both a chemical and bacteriological point of view. If the chemical and microbiological parameters do not exceed a certain threshold, it is still necessary purify the water from the well to make the water always safe not only from the point of view of bacterial and chemical pollution but also with an excellent flavor, as light as the best of mineral waters.

How to purify well water. Activated carbon
The main characteristics of activated carbon filters are porosity and the ability to retain some substances, especially organic pollutants such as pesticides and industrial solvents: there are some that make the smell, color and taste of water bad. Activated carbons are used above all to clean up unpleasant waters. They are unable to eliminate bacteria and nitrates or to act on the hardness of the water. The problem with activated carbon is that their characteristics make them a potential breeding ground for some bacteria. To avoid their development, activated carbon appliances must have, by law, a system that disinfects the water after treatment (with UV rays, ozone, silver).

How to purify well water. Ion exchange filters
They are filters consisting of resins that trigger a chemical process to reduce the hardness of the water. Fights nickel, barium, cobalt and other dangerous metals.

How to purify the water in the well. Reverse osmosis filters
With this technique, the water is forcibly conducted, by raising its pressure, through a semi-waterproof membrane: only certain substances and in certain quantities can pass through. Filtration guarantees better results than other mechanical techniques: it eliminates heavy metals, nitrates and other unwanted components, but it does not necessarily eliminate pesticides and industrial solvents.

Unfortunately, the application of one of these filters to a well or a home tank is not always enough to transform that water into drinking water as if by magic. Therefore it is recommended to contact industry experts for the application of more sophisticated purification techniques.
